Investigative reporter = Seymour=20 Hersh recently said that Barack Obama is our =E2=80=9Conly hope=E2=80=9D = to =E2=80=9Clead a=20 reconciliation between the Muslim countries and the US.=E2=80=9D Why? = Because Obama=E2=80=99s=20 father was a Muslim.

I simply don=E2=80=99t = follow Hersh=E2=80=99s=20 logic here. Seems to me the actions of a president are more important = than some=20 familial affiliation with a particular religion-not to mention that = candidate=20 Obama has aligned himself with Israel.

These are some of = Obama=E2=80=99s comments=20 during a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC): =

=E2=80=9COur job is to = rebuild the road=20 to real peace and lasting security throughout the region, =E2=80=9COur = job is to do=20 more than lay out another road map.=E2=80=9D

=E2=80=9CThat effort = begins with a clear=20 and strong commitment to the security of Israel: Our strongest ally in = the=20 region and its only established democracy. =E2=80=9CThat will always = be my starting=20 point.=E2=80=9D

And calling for = sustained military=20 support to Israel, Obama said: =E2=80=9CWe must preserve our total = commitment to our=20 unique defense relationship with Israel by fully funding military = assistance and=20 continuing work on the Arrow and related missile defense = programs.=E2=80=9D

For Barack Obama to say = that =E2=80=9Cour=20 job is to lay out another road map=E2=80=9D for peace while we are = providing military=20 support to Israel as the country launches attacks on Palestinians is = hypocrisy.=20 There is more than a conflict of interest for the US to go to the table, = act as=20 peace brokers, and make demands. But, then, that is what we do as = self-appointed=20 police officers to the world. We decry the violence in Kenya. Condi Rice = has=20 just made a statement that it must stop. But the violence perpetrated on = the=20 Iraqi and Afghan populations by her boss=E2=80=99s policies continues = without end. Our=20 violence is good violence. Anyone else=E2=80=99s is barbaric.

It matters little to me = that=20 Barack Obama says he was against invading Iraq. After all, he votes to = continue=20 funding it. If this presidential candidate wanted to mend relations with = Muslims, he could start by voting against additional war funding. =

And he could say no to = AIPAC-but=20 this would be political suicide.
