Some interesting bit of side notes involving Ms. Susan Oki and her father....a former member of the famed 442 U.S. Military Regiment: My father, a former World War 11 Combat photographer in the South Pacific theatre, was married to a local Japanese during the War. He was a distant Political acquaintance and supporter for Jack Burns in Kailua, Oahu. They both belonged to the Kailua Lions Club and were both members of the private Lanikai Mid-Pacific Country Club....mostly all haole members after the War years.

My father was involved in a very fraudulent Hawaii land purchase and sale during the 1950s involving a corrupt Hawaii land surveyor and a fellow Irishman linked to the Hawaii Judges family members. After he relocated to San Francisco in the early 1960s, he retained a Hawaii attorney whom I believe was none other than Echi Oki.....from Honolulu, linked to the famed 442 Hawaii Military Brigade members whom he always supported due to the persecution of the local Hawaii Japanese community after Pearl Harbor.

Echi Oki, again, had close political links vis-a-vis their Military Service to Dan Inouye and their tight knit Hawaii 442 hui cabals.....prior and after the 1954 Hawaii Legislature Revolution. My father lost the Court case, despite the SELLER testifying in favor of my fathers allegations...... with huge conflicts of interests since the Judge was related to the Hawaii Judge {Taveras}.

Another side Note with the Airline Industry: I was personally involved with the earlier Bankruptcy proceedings with Frontier Airlines in Denver {1986} which later involved Drexel Burnham Wall Street investors linked to Frank Lorenzo and Carl Ichan in New York. Like Mr. Rodney Stich, the FAA investigator making allegations against United Airlines in Denver, I was singled out with several others for exposing blatant FAA rules and blatant Public Safety violations involving massive fraud and corruption benefiting short-cutting - Airline cost saving procedures...comprising massive Public Safety cover-ups and FAA regulatory with damage control omitted issues involving the new non-unionized, young and ignorant work force.

This all began with the across the board firings for the FAA Air Traffic Controllers soon after the Reagan - Bush Sr Tenure came into Office in 1981. The massive Airline De-regulations in Washington vis-a-vis Wall Stree profiteers, {i.e. - Michael Milken, Marc Rich, Ivan Boesky} during the roaring unregulated 1980s which became famous with the Movies: WALL STREET {Michael Douglas} and "BARBARIANS AT THE GATE".

AIPAC'S Norman Brownstein, based in Downtown Denver, vis-a-vis my former Brownstein political mole "girlfriend" , New York attorney Lisa Holstein, was responsible for helping Lorenzo with the Texas Continental Airline gang members to get out of their Prime gate and exclusive lounge commitments, including a faulty Automated Baggage system, involving more massive fraud and cover-ups at the new Denver International Airport were allowed to quietly relocate back to their Houston based "Texas Air Corp" headquarters.

In 1993, Clinton denied Frank Lorenzo, with his New York Attorney wife with Chase Manhattan Bank, as well as their Texas Air Corps - Colorado Resort land investors in Aspen & Vail {Phillip Winn Group}, to continue manipulating the SEC within the confines of the "insiders" under the lucrative "De-Regulated Airline Industry" mergers using Union Pension plans for lucrative leveraged acquisitions....compromising Public Safety and FAA violations with massive cover-ups in Washington.

Akaka faces formidable task in
oversight of veterans committee

AN outburst of revelations about the inadequate care of soldiers wounded in the Iraq war has turned the spotlight on what is classified as a second-tier Senate committee, headed by Sen. Daniel Akaka. The Hawaii senator has been sensitive in responding to the attention as the new chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee and faces a serious challenge in the months and years ahead.

The veterans committee is among four panels described in Senate rules as "Class B" committees, behind a dozen committees given greater importance. Reports emerging from the Washington Post series about Walter Reed Army Medical Center show that Senate evaluation of its structure doesn't necessarily reflect public concern.

In more than 16 years on the committee, and as its ranking Democrat in the last Republican Congress, Akaka is well-versed on the issues. At a hearing last week, he expressed confidence in the Department of Veterans Affairs but called for "improvements" and a $2.9 billion increase to the Bush administration's proposed VA budget of $86.7 billion.

Fallout from the VA problems might compare with that following the Walter Reed reports, which led to the firing of the secretary of the Army and the Walter Reed commander. Public scrutiny now is directed at Jim Nicholson, a Vietnam War veteran and past chairman of the Republican National Committee, who was appointed by Bush to be secretary of the VA in 2005.

Akaka claims a "productive working relationship" with Sen. Larry Craig, the committee's ranking Republican and past chairman. However, Craig last week proposed allowing disabled veterans to seek treatment at any hospital, not just from the VA, apparently without consulting Akaka, whose spokeswoman said he had "not had time to review it."

Craig earlier in the week suggested Nicholson and the VA are victims of political maneuvering. "People now want to say that not only are they against the war and the way the president has handled it," Craig told the New York Times, "but now they want to take aim at the way the government takes care of the veterans." Akaka has been a strident opponent of the war.

Criticism of the VA is mounting. The Times reported two days ago that disabled veterans face serious inequities in compensation depending on where they live and whether they were active duty or members of the National Guard or Reserve.

Annual disability payments from the VA in 2006 averaged $4,962 for active duty soldiers and $3,603 for Guard and Reserve members. The same factors also determine whether some soldiers wait nearly twice as long to receive benefits, according to the Times analysis of VA figures. Such inequities are unfair to Guard and Reserve members who are doing front-line duty, often for multiple tours, in Iraq and Afghanistan, and must be corrected.

THE WORST BILL YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF

Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI) has introduced a bill called the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2005, S.147. Akaka wants to extend the government’s policy of self-governance and self-determination to Native Hawaiians. He, and fellow Hawaiian Senator Inouye intend to do this by creating a race-based and racially separate government for Native Hawaiians. Under S. 147 Native Hawaiians would be under the federal Indian law system and would be designated as a “tribe.” This new race-based government would have jurisdiction over 20 percent of Hawaii’s citizens as well as 400,000 citizens nationwide.

This would be the first time in our nation’s history that we have created an extra-constitutional race-based government out of a group of American citizens. Moreover, were this bill to become law, this new race-based government would be allowed to deny its constituents the protections afforded by the 1st, 5th and 14th Constitutional Amendments because they would not apply to the new “tribal government.”

This bill will likely receive scheduled Senate floor time before the chamber leaves for its August recess. Proponents of the legislation have been forcefully advancing the bill for 6 years now and during the last appropriations cycle they were able to secure a deal with Senate Leadership to assure floor time before this August is over. This fight will be won or lost on the Senate floor and it is currently unclear where the votes are.

As I’ve written before, giving Native Hawaiians Indian tribal-like status and immunity from federal civil rights laws is historically absurd and legally treacherous. At no time in their history have Native Hawaiians organized, acted, or existed as a tribe. When the U.S. annexed Hawaii, all of its citizens - native and non-native — became Americans. Unlike legitimate Indian tribes that retained quasi-sovereign powers after ceding their lands to the U.S., no group of Native Hawaiians ever established a treaty right to self-governance and exemption from our federal Constitution. If the Akaka bill becomes law, you can bet that every other aggreived racial and ethnic group will be running to claim tribal-like “sovereignty” and cash in on their manufactured status as separate foreign governments.

“Heavenly Father,
we are in trouble”

The sergeant at arms moved to the center aisle of the Senate chamber and called out like some medieval town crier in a twentieth-century business suit. “Hear, ye! All one hundred members of the United States Senate sat in their seats, tense and rigid, unusually attentive to every little detail, consumed by the gravity of the task awaiting them on this day, Thursday, January 7, 1999. The chamber that usually bustled with the motion of horse-trading legislators and aides and clerks was unnaturally still.... Most senators had figured the House would never impeach Clinton. Even once it did, many of the senators assumed some deal would be cut in the dead of winter to forestall an actual trial. But they were wrong, and now they had no choice but to confront the issue...

“Mr. President,” the silver-haired Hyde said from the well of the Senate, “the managers on the part of the House of Representatives are here present and ready to present the articles of impeachment, which have been preferred by the House of Representatives against William Jefferson Clinton, president of the United States.”...

“Heavenly Father,” began Senator Daniel K. Akaka, delivering the opening prayer, “we are in trouble and we need your help. We’ve come to a point where we don’t know what to do.”...

Lott met with a dozen other Republican senators in his hideaway the next morning, Tuesday, January 12, to prepare for the beginning of opening arguments....

The same day, a financial officer at a Washington law firm cut a check for $850,000, slipped it into an overnight envelope, and officially put an end to Jones v. Clinton. Most painful to the president was that he was actually forced to use personal money for some of the payment. His fund-raiser, Terry McAuliff, and other advisors had told him he would not have to pay a dime of the settlement, only to discover that they could not tap into his legal defense fund because its bylaws permitted payments only for attorney fees and legal expenses.

Bob Bennett, Clinton’s lawyer in the Jones case, succeeded in convincing one of the president’s insurers, Chubb Group Insurance, to fork over $475,000 but failed to persuade the other one, State Farm, to contribute. As a result, the final $375,000 was withdrawn from a blind trust that contained the first family’s assets – money that had been made by the first lady when she was a lawyer in Arkansas.

The irony was lost on no one. Hillary Clinton had to pay for Bill Clinton’s problems with women financially as well as emotionally.
