(Formerly Woo vs. Harmon & Nicholson vs. Harmon)

U.S. District Court For the District of Hawaii

Judges: David A. Ezra; Kevin S. Chang

DEFENDANT’S WITNESS

PONO CHONG

Born and raised in Kailua to Honolulu Firefighter Leonard K.S. Chong and retired realtor and homemaker Helena Goo Chong, Pono and his sister Patti-Jo attended Enchanted Lake Elementary School.

Very active in his youth playing baseball, football, volleyball, and canoe paddling, Pono recalls growing up on the Windward side:

"Windward O'ahu was the best place to grow up. We rode bikes together, played dodge ball and just had fun. It was a much simpler time."

After graduating from the University of Hawaii with a degree in International Economics and Communications, Pono worked for a contract-publishing firm and then went on to work at the Hawaii Senate Committee on Ways and Means as a Budget Analyst.

"I saw how making the right fiscal choices could have a dramatic impact on people's lives," says Pono.

I am currently working for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs as the Assistant Coordinator for the Halawa-Luluku Interpretive Development / H-3 Mitigation program. This allows me to promote and preserve Hawaiian history and culture as well as native plants and ecosystems.

In addition, I've worked in both the Executive and Legislative branches of government. As Special Assistant to the Director of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, I helped to make the department more friendly to our customers, the businesses of Hawaii.

As a Budget Analyst for the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, I was able to experience the state budget process firsthand and see how the right fiscal choices could make a big difference in people's lives.
