DEFENDANT’S WITNESS
RANDY STONE
Brother of Jeffrey Stone; brother-in-law of Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate trustee Richard Wong; mentioned in Defendant’s RICO lawsuit in connection with an alleged fraud and kickback scheme involving trustees of Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate and KDP Limited.
From wikipedia:
Stone began his acting career in 1976 as a child actor on Charlie's Angels. However, most of his acting roles were as an adult. He appeared in two episodes of Space: Above and Beyond, and did two movies roles. His most notable performance, however, was as the hapless gay Los Angeles millionaire Michael Beebe in the second-season episode Beware of the Dog on the television series Millennium.
Randy Stone was married to Barbra Streisand's sister, Roslyn Kind.
However, Stone's primary career was as a casting director. He began this career with The Landsberg Company in 1981. His first job was casting the NBC series Gimme A Break!. He was head of casting at 20th Century Fox Television, and was responsible for casting David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on The X-Files and Lance Henriksen on Millennium.
In 1998, Stone, who was gay, was terminated at Fox and filed a complaint with the California State Labor Commission that he had been illegally discriminated against on the basis of his sexual orientation. The company refused to comply with the Commission's decision....
In later years, he also produced several films. He was executive producer for the film Little Man Tate, Jodie Foster's directorial debut motion picture. (During the 2007 Academy Awards, Foster referred to his passing, and called him her "best friend.") He and co-producer Peggy Rajski won an Oscar for the 1994 short film Trevor, a comedy-drama about a gay teenage boy's attempted suicide. A revised version for television co-starred Ellen DeGeneres. In 2006, Stone wrote and executive produced the made-for-TV movie A Little Thing Called Murder, starring Judy Davis, based on the story of murderer Sante Kimes. It won him the International Press Academy's Satellite Award for Motion Picture Made for Television....

Bronster:
‘Sweetheart Deals’
With Cronies
The trustees deny the state's
allegations and blame the Cayetano
administration for exploiting
the controversy
By Rick Daysog, Star-Bulletin
Raising the possibility of criminal charges, Attorney General Margery Bronster says Bishop Estate trustees received kickbacks, participated in illegal political campaign contributions and mismanaged Kamehameha Schools.
Yesterday, Bronster filed a 58-page petition in probate court targeting the removal of the estate's majority trustees Henry Peters, Richard Wong and Lokelani Lindsey, saying the three trustees enriched themselves at the expense of the trust's beneficiaries.
Bronster alleged that trustees Peters and Wong received kickbacks from a Hawaii Kai land deal involving Wong's brother-in-law, Jeff Stone.
Lindsey, meanwhile, mismanaged Kamehameha Schools and used trust employees to run personal errands and help renovate her Hauula home, the attorney general alleged.
"I believe certain trustees received kickbacks worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from relatives via elaborate real estate transactions," Bronster said in a letter to Gov. Ben Cayetano, who ordered the investigation more than a year ago.
"Trustees have hired friends, relatives and political allies who have given little or no service to the trust and trustees have also routinely made sweetheart deals with this same assortment of relatives, cronies and other hangers on."
Bishop Estate attorney William McCorriston denied that any breaches of trust have occurred, saying trustees and their individual attorneys look forward to answering the charges in a court of law.
"They are looking forward to having this resolved by judicial resolution in a court of law -- hopefully by a judge who won't be influenced by the electronic lynching by the media or be persuaded by anything except the evidence that will be presented," McCorriston said....
The removal requests come a year after the state launched its investigation into allegations of financial mismanagement, breaches of fiduciary duties and manipulations of the student admission process at the estate-run Kamehameha Schools.
HIGHLIGHTS ...
from Bronster's petition
Here are some accusations lodged by the state attorney general's office against Bishop Estate trustees:
Enriching themselves
Trustees Henry Peters, Richard Wong, and Lokelani Lindsey have enriched themselves from the trust at the expense of the beneficiaries:
Inflated prices (on apartments at 1015 Wilder Ave.) were paid to Peters and Wong as a quid pro quo for conferring financial benefits on Wong's brother-in-law Jeffrey Stone.
The trust wired $500,000 to KDP-Technologies on July 2, 1997.
This investment was made without adequate due diligence and in disregard of an internal staff report. KDP-Tech was managed by principals with no proven business track records, was a highly speculative start up company, and the soft-porn nature of the investment was not suitable for a charitable educational trust.
Within a week of the trust's initial investment of $500,000, KDP-Tech began negotiating a consulting agreement with Wong's brother-in-law Randy Stone.
KDP-Trust (KDP Ltd., a subsidiary of Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center) continued to advance trust money to KDP-Tech until its treasurer, Lindsey's acquaintance, was indicted for federal mail fraud and money laundering crimes (for which he was subsequently convicted and sentenced).
While a director of Mid Ocean, Peters received substantial director's fees and received options to acquire 6,000 shares of Mid Ocean stock.
The Mid Ocean fees and stock options are assets that belong to the trust and not to Peters individually.
Peters has enriched himself at the expense of the beneficiaries by retaining the fees and stock options for his personal benefit....

Randy Stone, award-winning producer, 48
By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer
When Academy Award-winning actress-director Jodie Foster presented last month's memorial montage of film-industry people who died in 2006 during the Oscars, she remembered her "best friend," Honolulan Randy Stone.
The producer and casting director died of heart failure at his Beverly Hills home last Feb. 12 at age 48. He was born on Aug. 26, 1958.
He had developed a friendship with Foster, serving as executive producer of her inaugural film as director, 1991's "Little Man Tate."
At a memorial service held Feb. 16 at the Hollywood Forest Lawn Cemetery in California and at a Celebration of Life event Feb. 17 at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Foster delivered the eulogy.
"He was a talented, creative and particularly nice young man," said Marion F. Parmley, a longtime friend.
Stone also was an Oscar-winning producer.
His film "Trevor" won an Academy Award for live-action short subject in 1995. At the awards show, he pointed to Foster in the audience and said, "Jodie, I love you." The short, dealing with a teenager struggling with his sexual identity, aired on HBO and was screened locally in 1998 as part of the Hawai'i Gay and Lesbian Film Festival at the Hawai'i Theatre.
Along with Peggy Rajski and James Lecesne, the film's director and co-writer respectively, Stone co-founded The Trevor Project, inspired by the film. The Trevor Project operates the only nationwide 24/7 suicide-prevention helpline for gay and questioning youth. After Stone's death, his family requested that any donations in Stone's memory be made to Trevor, which has become one of his lasting legacies. Its Web site is www.thetrevorproject.org .
Stone did a few acting roles — as a child, he appeared on "Charlie's Angels" — but his Hollywood career evolved behind the cameras.
As a casting director, he is credited for casting David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on Fox's "The X-Files" and Lance Henricksen on "Millennium."
His last project was the 2006 made-for-television film "A Little Thing Called Murder," which he wrote and executive-produced, based on the story of his next-door Hawai'i Kai neighbors, Sante and Kenny Kimes.
The movie, which earned a Satellite Award for best motion picture made for television, dealt with a real-life mother-and-son con artist team who worked as grifters and scammers in the 1990s. The pair was ultimately arrested for the murder of an 82-year-old socialite in New York, with the son later testifying against his mother in 2004.
Survivors include his father, Dick Stone; mother, the Rev. Beverly Stone of Ko Olina; his brother, Jeffrey Stone, the developer of the Ko Olina resort; and sisters Marie Stone Wong of Honolulu and Malia Mathis of Beverly Hills.
